Rescue's Reckoning

Defying Vesper's ultimatum, Elowen and Maelrik slip away from their rebel army to infiltrate the shadowed spire where Master Alden is held, their completed soul bond guiding them through hidden passages and enemy eyes. Maelrik is forced into a savage brutal duel against his own younger brother Lorian to buy time for the rescue, but as they flee with the freed mentor the old archivist takes a mortal wound just before he can share his vital testimony for the grand assembly.
